In Episode 90, Michael and Dan talk with Heather Hagan and Carolyn Weber about their recent article published in Middle Level Learning titled, “The Global Challenge of Equal Access for Girls to an Education: An Investigation Using Inquiry” In this article, they discuss how educators can teach students about the rights young women have to an education in different countries around the world using the Inquiry Arc of the C3 Framework.

Biographies

Dr. Heather Hagan, Ph.D. graduated from University of Florida with her B.A. in Elementary Education and her M.Ed. in Special Education. After graduating she taught 5th grade in Tampa, Florida. In 2010, she returned to graduate school at Indiana University to pursue her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and a specialization in elementary social studies education. Her major research interests focus around integrating literacy and social studies. She completed her degree in 2015 and began her career at Coastal Carolina University.

Carolyn Weber, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor, Middle Level Education & Coordinator, Undergraduate Middle Level Education Dual Major Program at University of Northern Iowa. She graduated from Indiana University in 2012 with her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. Her research interests include the history of social studies education, preservice teachers, and social studies pedagogy.
